Hello....
I'm wondering how difficult it would be to convert an
'81 Z28 from the existing T-10 to a T-5, and what would
need to be done? I would like to have a higher top
gear on the freeway to reduce RPM and improve mileage,
which is killing me at 13 mpg. The car is running with
P275-50-R15 all around, 3.42 differential, and the
current T-10 has 3.42, 2.28, 1.46, 1.00 as it came from
the factory. What would be done to make the T-5 fit?
Also, does it use a VSS or a gear drive for the speedo?
If T-5 wouldn't work I would like a Richmond 6 spd.
Thanks for any help you can give....

I have a 1986 Camaro iroc z-28. My problem is
the transmission. It was originally an automatic 700R4 but I have replaced it
with a 1987 T-5 from a 305 TPI Firebird. all the parts are interchangeable but
I dont have backup lights or a speedometer because mine is cable ant the T-5
is Electronic. I need to know if there is an Electrical plug thatwill plug into
the harness for the automatic shifter so that I can use the reverse lights and
be able to start my car. Any useful information would be appreciated. thanks.

To ZAK: The backup light switch can be wired
manually from your existing switch on the T5. The problem is not with the backup
lights but with the neutral safety switch in automatics. You really need to
get both wiring diagrams from both applications to make these corrections effective.

To Warren S. Derbridge: Simple T5 Identifiers
are 13-52 XXXX casting numbers on the case. Usually ID tags are held on the
tailhousing bolts.

I have an 87 IROC, and just put in a mild 350,
the transmission was acting funny before and now it will not engage into 3rd
and 4th gears. It has a new centerforce clutch and was done at a shop. I would
like to rebuild it or get some advice on if i should drop another one in, or
get the tremec 5-speed with the conversion kit. please help?

I currently rebuilding my 84 pontiac Trans Am
with a 305 engine, and the original transmission fried on me (T5).
I found another t5 but it's from a 2.8 liter firebird.
the input shaft is a 13 or 14 spline, the problem is locating a 10.1/4 inch
clutch to fit the 14 spline. The original transmission had a 26 spline input
shaft.
GM does not make a clutch plate this size for that spline. To replace the spline
is expensive. In Canada
Finding a T5 out of a 305 is imposable locate at a recycler.
Other than buying a rebuilt one, again very expensive,
can you suggest anything

I’m dropping a 350 with a T5 tranny into a ’85
RX7. I almost positive the overdrive gear in the tranny is .74 and the stock
rear end in the Mazda is 3.909. With those gear ratios I’ll be pushing around
2800 RPM at 70MPH on the highway. I’m aware that this isn’t at all good for
a lot or highway driving. So far I can’t find anyone that can cut me a custom
set of gears for the rear end. I was wondering if there was any way that the
T5 overdrive gear can go from the .74 ratio to around .55 ratio, to help get
the RPMs down, or if something like this is at all possible? Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Is there any difference between the T-5's
that came in '95 and older V6 (60deg) and '92 and older V8 F-bodies
and the 5 spd in the 96 and newer 3800V6's? I would like to use a 5spd out
of a 98 Firebird 3800V6 on a '94 3.4L Camaro, would this work? I have seen
the trans behind the 3800V6 and it appears to be much the same except for possibly
the bolt pattern to the bell housing is different..? Thanks.

I'm having a problem with my t-5 (world
class?) tranny.
It's in an 89 Firebird GTA w/305. The problem is this;
Gears R, 1 to 4 work perfect. When I shift into 5th
(shifts smoothly) and release the clutch on the highway, I begin hearing
a vibration sound around
2000 RPM coming from down below. I can also feel it
slightly in the shift knob. when I put in the clutch
and shift to neutral (still travelling around 100km/h), the noise presists
and becomes higher in pitch. I'm wondering if the Steel stabalizer plate
mentioned on this site would fix this problem. If so,
consider it sold!...p.s. The clutch and release bearing
are brand new!

I have a t5 from a '84 Camaro with a 305.
It is going to be installed in a '73 Camaro with a mild 350 (built to
the early '70's 350hp 350 spec's). Is it possible to update
this T5 to World Class standards by using your rebuild kit? I understand the
World Class T5 has an updated input shaft, an updated gear set and can handle
far more torque in comparision the T5's in the early Chevy T5's.

I have a '69 Camaro that currently has a
TH350 trans. The whole drivetrain is original and pretty much shot, so I've
been thinking about converting to a manual. Anyone have any idea if a T5 will
physically fit? I can do all the tunnel & clutch linkage changes, I expect
I'd have to get the driveshaft shortened and make some "adjustments"
to he crossmember, but anything else? Anyone done this on a 1st gen??? Any help
appreciated!

I have a 1984 Z-28 w/ the L-69 305 H.O. and the
B-W T5
tranny. It has done fine behind the 305, but I am planning to do one of 2 things
in the near future:
1) stroke the 305 out to a 335 which will produce 301 hp at 4700 rpm and
381 lb/ft of torque @ 3700 rpm; 2) drop in a crate 350 w/ somewhere between
350-400 hp and about 400 lb/ft of torque. Before reading your info. on the steel
stabilizer plate, I had planned on
dropping in a Tremec T5 or a Richmond Gear 6-spd. or a
T-56 out of a 4th gen. Z-28. Would my original T5 hold
up to the increased hp and torque of my options if I
were to rebuild it to World Class specs. using the steel sleeve, etc. or would
I be better off just dishing out the extra cash for one of the other trannys
I mentioned instead of taking the risk of the T5 turning loose after a few blasts
down the 1320? Thanks for any info. or advice you can give me. Please e-mail
me your response if possible. Thanks again.

I have a 86 model T5 for GM applications. It

slowly losing the synchros on fifth gear. Do your
rebuild kits beef the tranny enough to live behind
350-400 ft/lbs smallblock? Does the stabilizer

inluded in the rebuild kits, or where could I get
them?
By Paul Cangialosi (Admin)

To Riku: The stablizer plate helps "beef
of the transmission as stated on my t5 page www.5speeds.com/t5.htm. Kits do
not come with any instructions just as an engine kit from TRW comes with none.
If your drag racing this trans it will not live period.
I would like to purchase a WC T-5 for my Camaro.

I understand that the WC trannies only came in 88 or later V-8 powered Camaro/bird.
Problem is that our local boneyards have pulled all of the trannies and have
them on shelves.
How can I identify the WC tranny from the non-WC tranny if the year of the tranny
is not known (tag missing etc.)
In other words - how about a list of casting #'s or other such identifying
marks to differentiate between WC and NON-WC trannies.
If I can find one of these trannies I will purchase your rebuild kit and bearing
stabilizer so I won't have to go through this again.
Thank you for your help
