I have a Richmond Street 5 Speed. It has around
2000
miles on it since new. The problem I am having is that it does not shift that
great. It is fitted with a Long Shifter, a Centerforce 10.4" Dual Friction
clutch, Castrol VMX oil (80w90 semi synthetic). I have been through
all the usual stuff with the shifter adjustment and clutch air gap. Is this
a typical characteristic of this transmission or can anyone suggest a fix. The
transmission has the optional gearset of 4.06 low and 2.22 second.

To Nigel Shaw...The richmond boxes have this
bad shifting characteristic. The gears are quite heavy in these boxes making
the shift effort high. Try GM synchromesh fluid in the box.

I would like to use the 6-speed in a street/strip/autox
aplication. Targeted power output would be in the 600 ft/pound@6000 RPM range.
3500lb vehicle. Will this tranny stand up to occasional blasts down the drag
strip or around a road course ?
How does it compare to the new Borg Warner 6 speed in the Vettes and Vipers
?
Thanks for any help

Dudes, I was wondering. Iīve seen cars around
the net which have Doug Nash transmissions, but with Hurst shifter... what does
all that mean? Is it like, you can use it like a hurst transmission (you
donīt have to clutch unless you want to) or what??? :)
thanx in advance

To Bravo: I call this hunting in and out of gear.
Look to see that the OD light isn't going on and off as well. If it is,
then you have a ECM/signal problem to the OD. If is is not check your solinoid,
or pressure switch or connection to them. Most of the time when this happens
and your OD light stays on it usually means your OD clutches are fried.

Anyone know where to find replacement parts for
a Doug Nash Overdrive unit? I need the electric motor that shifts the O/D mechanism
in and out. Thanks

interesting project car. 82 mazda rx7 gt3 race
car being shoe horned with 400m ford at around 450 hp. would like info on correct
trans for 2km roadrace course. would prefer close ratio of around 2.20,1.85,1.50,1.
is a dogged syncro the ticket or would a cone syncro be sufficient. doesn't
doug nash make a 5spd with dogged syncros and straight cut teeth, 5th gear would
be removed and blocked. space behind engine is limited due the #1 plug being
3inches behind front axle centerline. car weighs 2600lbs with 400 and toploader
in the trunk.

I have a new richmond 5 spd, shifting gears is
real hard. I went through all the shifter and clutch adjustment ,it still hard.
I tried red line Mtl and gm synchromesh fluids and there is no change. What is
wrong ??

To Peter, Richmond 5 and 6 speed are horrible
shifting transmissions. This is a normal complaint. Your detents and synchros
need to be reworked for it to shift nice and smooth.

Dear Paul
I just recently found this web sit. I have been interested in Nash/Richmond
5spds for sometime, have wanted to put one in my 66 Corvette,it has 3.08s in
the rearend now. A lower 1st gear sure would make things more fun. I also have
a 69 SS396 Chevelle that I was thinking of puting a Richmond 5spd in, but now
I'm not so sure thats what I want to do.
What do you have to do to the detents and synchros?
to get them to shift smooth, Corvette does not get abused, but my Chevelle does
occasionally. Will these mods allow me to power shift my Chevelle.
Thanks,Gene
