New Muncie 4 Speed Transmissions

After 29 years.... the Muncie Transmission is back! General Motors stopped installing "Muncie" 4 speeds in 1974. Complete units were able to be purchased from GM until the late 1970's. Parts trickled out of inventory by the late 1980's. With the quality of used Muncie transmissions getting worse in the last 7 years, the idea of making new improved Muncie parts was becoming a reality. We were contacted by Autogear Company (Syracuse NY ) to help them conceptualize newer designed products for the Muncie. First we started with gears, then the Supercase. Soon after design concepts for endurance racing followed with iron midplates, sealed inputs, extra close ratios and rollerized 1st gears. In less than 3 years a complete new 4 speed became possible. With the proper rear end gear a new M22 can handle close to 700HP!

Why should you purchase a new Muncie 4 Speed from us?

We realize that the success of these products has allowed many people to build new transmissions. We are an authorized Autogear distributer as well as value added assembler. Between the Internet and Ebay there are a great deal of people putting together "new" Muncie 4 speeds. The problem is that some may use some new parts mixed with used parts. Some may build units with gears not made by Masiero. The Masiero gears are the only gears Autogear and 5speeds.com install in new transmissions. We are also the only company selling our state of the art SPEC-25 Muncie.

The new Muncie style 4 speed even in base form is a huge improvement over factory units. Each unit starts with a completely new gearset and all internals blueprinted by us. The internals are installed in the Supercase, iron midplate and heavy duty tail. The unit is buttoned up with a new side cover assembly and forks. The side cover assembly has shifter shafts that ride on roller bearings. This improves shift feel. Every component is new, there is no core charge.

You can obtain a new transmission as a standard replacement unit with a 10 spline input and 27 spline output in M20, M21, and M22 ratios. You can have the same ratios in the 26 spline input and 32 spline output as well with no additional cost.

New gears get cleaned and inspected

Gears deburred and fitted with forged rings

A new M20 SS goes together

New hardware and front retainer locks

All units include new speedo drives and hardware

Factory and Hurst shifters fit perfectly

New design cover with bolt on style shift shafts

Inside shows new detents and pinned shafts
New design side cover uses roller bearings inside the shifter shaft bore. Typically used in high tech German transmissions, this design promotes positive shifting and eliminates cover bore wear. The improved concentricity of the shifter shaft to cover bore relationship eliminates shaft oil leaks.
