Assembling an X Rated M22 - Page 3

The final page on our M22 X ratio build up. This box will be used in VSCDA santioned race events. Currently there are plenty of non synchro straight cut gear boxes running super close ratio gear sets. VSCDA rules require a synchromesh transmission. The M22 X ratio 4 speed fills that much needed requirement. This particular transmission is going into a Jaguar E-type!

I used bolt on shifter shafts instead of the stud type. Note that some shafts are longer than the studded types. Putting the wrong length shaft in a cover can cause binding.

I've installed new shift forks in the side cover. I'm also using the heavy cover spring. My trusted Muncie nut wrench is in the back round.

You must place the transmission and cover in 2nd gear position to install the cover assembly. Note the skin coat of sealant on the gasket.

I like to use new grade 8 hardware on my race transmissions. It is also important to use sidecovers that have a hat style pivot pin. Early non hat pins would fall in the trans.

Well here is the completed build up. We'll use Royal Purple Max gear lube. I've been using this stuff and it seems to prevent heat checking of gears then other synthetics.

Final touch is stamping the case with the model number, serial number, and ratios. If you want detailed assembly procedures for Muncie 4 speeds, see my video page.
