A Word from Paul - January 2014

It's hard to believe that I've been involved in the standard transmission business for 33 years. When I think about the 1000's of rebuild kits, transmissions, and parts that I have sold during those years, combined with the great people that I have met, I must say it has been very rewarding.

Our business has gone through many changes as well. We use to rebuild engines, rear axles and just about every foreign and domestic passenger car and light truck manual transmission. Gradually we went from rebuilding to manufacturing specialty parts that at one time landed us a deal as a vendor for General Motors.

Today we still make 12 different rebuild kits and six different new transmissions. We rarely do rebuilding but are always glad to help anyone out that may have a rebuilding problem. The internet has also changed the way business is "done". We have developed our own online shopping and online forums to give people a better level of service. My book on building High Performance Manual Transmissions has been ranked in the top 100 Amazon Automotive Best Seller Repair Books. If you are price shopping on the internet for parts, you will find our prices fair. We are not the cheapest nor will we lower our prices because someone thinks that price is the only factor when making a purchase with us.

Despite a very large growth over these 33 years we still like to keep things small. I consider Medatronics Corp. and the 5speeds.com website more of a "boutique" business. When you purchase a new transmission from us, you are getting a transmission that is either personally assembled or at the very least inspected by myself. It is also good to know that new transmissions are either designed by us or we may have played a significant role in component design or concept.

Part of our success has always been innovative designs and products. The reward is seeing people enjoy our products year after year. I've also realized that what makes us different from the people who try to copy our products, our website pages, or compete with lower pricing is the simple fact that we sell what we design and we have the knowledge to support it.

Enjoy our website,
