Thank you for purchasing this electronic conversion speedometer. Your instrument has been conceived, designed and manufactured by Medatronics Corporation in the U.S.A. Each speedometer has been tested and certified for accuracy and quality before packaging and shipping.

This speedometer is designed to be used in Jaguar E-Type 6 Cylinder cars with our JT5 5 speed transmission conversion. The speed sensor for this speedometer is mounted in the rear of the gear box left of the shifter tower. Since this speedometer is electronic it can be programmed to compensate for a wide variety of gear ratios and tire sizes.

For trouble free installation and operation please follow the instructions exactly as outlined.
Step 1: Remove your existing speedometer and cable. Unplug all lights and label each of the hazard lamps so that you will know what they correspond to ( Ignition, Fuel, Headlamps). Also label the wires that go to the dash panel lights.

Step 2: Take the new speedometer and make sure the program switches 1-3-4-5 are in the ON position ( tipped inward toward the top ). All others should be OFF.

Step 3: Make sure you leave enough wire length on your connections so the the speedometer can be pulled out of the dash and programmed.

Step 4: Find a negative (-12volt) ground connection and attach the wire labeled (GND-) to it.

Step 5: Find a positive (+12volt) connection that is only active when the ignition is on and connect the wire labeled (+12V) to it. DO NOT connect this to a wire or terminal that is "hot" at all times since this will cause a drain on the battery and possibly ruin your speedometer.

Step 6: Connect the speed sensor wires to the Ground (GND) post and the SIG post. Some speedometers may have this prewired with a plug that connects to the sensor on the gearbox.

Step 7: Using the 3 wire Warning Lamp Connector supplied, splice your three hazard lamp wires onto it. Some hazard lamps have two wires terminated to them. Usually the Ignition and Fuel have two wires attached to them. You are going to splice the NEGATIVE wire of the Ignition and Fuel warning lamps and the POSITIVE wire of the Headlamp indicator on to the connector. Make sure you that you tape up and insulate the old positive wires that are disconnected from the IGN and FUEL lamps. Crimp connectors are supplied.

Step 8: Connect the positive wire of your old panel lamps to the new wire. Crimp and adapter connectors are supplied.

Theory: The speed sensor located on the transmission generates a series of electronic pulses each time the output shaft of the gearbox makes one revolution. Your speedometer is calibrated from the factory to convert 8000 pulses per minute to equate to a mile a minute or 60 miles per hour. The switches located in the back of the unit muliply or divide those pulses to compensate for various rear end ratios and tire sizes. The default setting of these switches is set so that numbers 1-3-4-5 are ON. When you purchase your JT5 transmission you are supplied with a print out from our RPM calculator software which tells you what RPM at 60 miles per hour your engine is turning. You can use this print out to program your speedometer since you will know what RPM your engine is turning at 60 mph in 5th gear. This is a lot easier, safer, and accurate then driving next to someone who is suppose to be driving at 60 mph.

If you have a PC with Windows you can download our RPM Calculator software from our website at www.gearzone.net or you can ask us to mail you a free copy.
